About ZAMISE
Zambia Institute of Special Education is one of the twelve (12) Public Colleges of Education in Zambia. It was established in 1971 with the mandate to train In-Service teachers in Special Education Methodology. Its graduates then, obtained a certificate in Special Education, which enabled them to handle children with different Special Educational Needs and Disability (SENL).

The history of ZAMISE
established in 1971 with the mandate to train In-Service teachers in Special Education Methodology. Its graduates then, obtained a certificate in Special Education, which enabled them to handle children with different Special Educational Needs and Disability (SENL).
Over the years, the Institute upgraded its certificate to diploma and affiliated the diploma program with the University of Zambia in 1995. By 2005, the Institute responded to society’s growing need of specialised teachers by expanding its mode of delivery to include training In-Service teacher through Distance Education. It further, with authority granted by the Ministry of Education, expanded its mandate and training programs. The Institute began to enroll Pre-Service students and increased the training period from two years to three years in 2017.
